Accelerated Nursing Programs Reviewed – Why Do Most People Settle For It

Individuals who are graduates of a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree can further their education by taking any of the accelerated nursing programs in accredited nursing schools. Accelerated nurse programs allow students to become registered nurses in a shorter time span. An accelerated nursing program is especially helpful to people who want to earn a higher salary because of financial constraints and who need to do it as soon as possible.

Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing offers one of the best accelerated nursing programs. The program takes only 13.5 months and begins in June each year. Students are taught the theories behind nursing care practices as well as hands-on course work. This ensures that the graduates not only know the theoretical aspects of nursing but also the actual practical side of the profession. Students are instructed on the following courses:

Principles of Pharmacology, Health Assessment, Issues in Aging, and Patient-centered Care. The program also includes Public Health Nursing, Nursing the Childbearing Family, and Nursing for Child Health. A student who wants to enroll in the BSN accelerated nursing program must have already completed required courses. These courses include Human Anatomy, Animal Anatomy, Microbiology, Statistics, Nutrition, Physiology, and Human Growth and Development. After graduation from the program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination.

Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing
Another one of those schools known for their accelerated nursing programs is Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing. The college offers the accelerated full-time BSN degree program in a 12-month time frame. This program is not for working students as students are required to be in school 50 to 60 hours per week. Those class hours are divided between the classroom and the simulation labs.

Aside from that, students are required to complete 600 hours practicum contact. Students learn the ropes in nursing through courses which include Pathophysiology, Nursing Pharmacology, Women’s Health Nursing, Nursing Management of Adult Health Care, and Pediatric Nursing. To get into the program, applicants must be bachelor’s degree holders with undergraduate GPA of at least 3.2 if on a 4.0 scale. Further, the applicant must have completed the following prerequisite courses: Nutrition, General Psychology, Anatomy with lab, Physiology I & II with Lab, Microbiology with Lab, Statistics, and Human Growth and Development.

New York University College of Nursing
The NYU accelerated nursing program is one of the best accelerated nursing programs. The program requires applicants to have completed a bachelors degree from another field with prerequisite courses such as nutrition, chemistry (with lab), statistics, anatomy and physiology (I and II), microbiology, and developmental psychology. The accelerated program can be completed in 15 months. The nursing school does not accept any prerequisite courses taken online through nursing schools. Only Developmental Psychology and Nutrition may be taken by applicants online.
